Hungry Baby Birds
Baby birds can't leave the nest, so they "Gape"! They open their mouths super wide. The inside of their mouths are bright yellow or red, which looks like a TARGET for the parents to drop food into!
The "Freeze" Trick
Baby deer (fawns) have white spots that look like sunlight on the grass. When they sense danger, they Stay Perfectly Still. By "freezing," predators can't see or smell them!
Follow the Leader
Baby ducks use Imprinting. As soon as they hatch, they follow the very first big thing they see (usually Mom!). This keeps them from getting lost.
Playing Possum
Young opossums are great actors. If a predator comes near, they Play Dead. They even smell bad on purpose so the predator thinks they are yucky and leaves!
